President’s Message – by Sam Miller
Woodgate Day, May 9; Our Neighborhood’s Springtime Tallahassee
Wonderful Woodgate has its own iteration of Springtime Tallahassee. It’s Woodgate Day, Saturday, May 9, on Fieldstone Lane, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free food, and lots of fun activities, including the Lofty Pursuits Community Band, crafts and games for kids, model trains and much more.
This is our neighborhood’s signature event , a chance to enjoy the spring and greet old neighbors and meet new ones. Families move into Woodgate regularly, and we are issuing a special invitation to our newcomers.
Free hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and desserts, coffee, soft drinks, water, and snow cones. Games for the kids, face-painting and Sam’s train club’s model trains. Exhibits by businesses that support the neighborhood and visits by our local police and sheriff’s departments, and visits by local elected officials.
One huge highlight is the Lofty Pursuits Community Band, which also performs during Woodgate’s holiday lanterns festivities in December. The band will warm up at 10:30 and play for Woodgate Day at 11a.m.
On display will be the Sheriff’s Department Special Weapons TAC Team and Bearcat; the Tallahassee Police Department TAC Team; Tallahassee Fire Department Engine 9; and the city’s natural gas program.
If you haven’t joined the Woodgate Neighborhood Association, take care of it there. The $35 dues support Woodgate Day and other wonderful WNA events throughout the year.
Volunteers are needed to set-up, work during the event and take everything down at the end of Woodgate Day. Please contact us to volunteer or if you know teens who need service hours. Text or call WNA President Sam Miller at (850) 459-3012.
Woodgate Day is our neighborhood’s biggest and best attended activity of the year. Please join us and help make this one of the best ever!
